Statement by the President of the Hellenic Republic Constantine An. Tassoulas on the Armenian Genocide

Today, on the 111th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide by the Ottoman Empire, one of the most heinous crimes against humanity, we honor the memory of the one and a half million victims.
This memory is an unnegotiable duty, as much to the victims as to historical truth, so that forgetting does not become a cause of revisionism, violence and intolerance.

Greece and Armenia are linked by enduring ties, forged through shared trials, as well as through a steadfast relationship of solidarity, friendship and mutual respect.

In today’s international climate, marked by crises, conflicts and uncertainties, commitment to peace, mutual understanding and cooperation among peoples becomes even more imperative. Historical memory demands constant vigilance so that the tragic events of history are never repeated.
