Meeting with Archbishop Makarios of Australia

The President of the Hellenic Republic Constantine An. Tassoulas, received at the Presidential Mansion His Eminence Archbishop Makarios of Australia.

Mr. Tassoulas congratulated the Archbishop on the multifaceted ecclesiastical, social, educational and cultural work of the Archdiocese and of himself personally, who, through his religious and academic status as a Professor of Bioethics, serves as a bridge of unity with the large and thriving Greek diaspora in Australia. He emphasized that the Archdiocese of Australia is not merely a religious institution, but a national institution that safeguards and preserves our national identity, the Greek language and the traditions of our homeland.

The President noted that the Greek state always supports every initiative for the protection and promotion of the Greek language and identity. In this context, he referred to a recent opportunity he had to address the 12th International Summer University, organized in Sydney by the University of Ioannina in collaboration with other Australian organizations. An initiative that proves that Hellenism lives and thrives wherever the Greek diaspora is found.

His Eminence Archbishop Makarios thanked the President of the Hellenic Republic for the reception and conveyed the greetings of the Archdiocese, the Greek diaspora and the Ecumenical Patriarch, His All-Holiness Bartholomew.

He then informed him about the actions of the Archdiocese.
