Letter to the President of the United States Donald Trump

The President of the Hellenic Republic Constantine An. Tassoulas, on the occasion of the 250th anniversary of the United States Declaration of Independence, sent the following letter to the President of the United States of America Donald Trump:

Athens, 2 July 2026

Dear Mr. President,

On the occasion of the Independence Day of the United States of America and the historic milestone of the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, I wish to convey to you my warmest congratulations and best wishes for the well-being and prosperity of the American people.

The bonds between the Hellenic Republic and the United States are deeply rooted in shared values and grounded in common goals and interests as strategic partners. It remains a matter of mutual historical pride that the Founding Fathers of the American Republic drew profound inspiration from the democratic ideals of classical Greece, embedding these timeless civic virtues into the constitutional and political foundations of the United States. The principles of liberty, civic duty, and the rule of law, tracing their roots in Antiquity, helped shape the philosophical underpinnings of the great American experiment.

In turn, the success of the American Revolution served as a beacon of hope for the Greek people. When Greece embarked upon its own War of Independence in 1821, the solidarity of the American people and the courage of American Philhellenes, who crossed the Atlantic to fight alongside the Greek people, forged an enduring bond of friendship and brotherhood between our nations.

Today, as we reflect upon 250 years of American independence, we also celebrate the strength of our contemporary partnership. This historical affinity has evolved in a robust and comprehensive strategic partnership. As steadfast Allies, our two nations work closely to advance regional security, foster stability across the Eastern Mediterranean and beyond and strengthen international peace. This multifaceted relationship is further sustained and enriched by the vibrant Greek-American community, which continues to serve as a vital bridge between our peoples.

As the United States celebrates this significant anniversary, please accept, Mr. President, the assurances of my highest esteem, along with my most sincere wishes for your personal well-being and for the continued prosperity and progress of the American people and the United States of America.

Yours sincerely,

Constantine An. Tassoulas
