Statement at the Informal Meeting of the Heads of State of the Arraiolos Group in Estonia

The President of the Hellenic Republic Constantine An. Tassoulas, at the invitation of the President of Estonia, Alar Karis, is participating in the Informal Meeting of the Heads of State of the Arraiolos Group, which this year is being held in Tallinn.

Upon his arrival at the Meeting, Mr. Tassoulas made the following statement:

“I participate today for the first time here in the capital of Estonia, in beautiful Tallinn, at the invitation of the president of the Republic of Estonia, Alar Karis, at the meeting of the Arraiolos Group, where we will discuss current issues of our time and our continent.

The Arraiolos Group consists of the Presidents of the European Union countries that have the same political system as Greece, which is, a Presidential Republic. At this Meeting, which takes place every year since 2003, we will discuss burning issues such as the challenge of artificial intelligence, European security issues and of course the developments in the Middle East. The first session of the Meeting will be devoted to the challenges of artificial intelligence, which is evolving at a very fast pace, very rapidly, and I will have the opportunity to present to my ten other colleagues, the Presidents of the European Union countries, the progress that our country is making in this area, particularly in the field of education.

The next session is dedicated to the serious situation in the Middle East and, of course, the discussions that will take place will be devoted to yesterday’s agreement between Israel and Hamas, which implements the first phase of President Trump’s plan for a ceasefire, increased humanitarian aid and the return of all hostages, without exception. Greece welcomes this agreement and we hope that it will be a prelude to the final end of the war and, at last, to peace in this long-suffering region.

The last session of today’s Meeting will be devoted to issues concerning the geopolitics and the security of Europe, which must be further strengthened and, as it is logical, include all European borders without exception. This becomes even more imperative after Russia’s unprovoked attack on Ukraine, which has been going on for several years now and continues to this day. Greece, as it is well known, supports Ukraine in every way possible and cannot but do just that, having itself had the very traumatic experience of 51 years of the illegal Turkish invasion and occupation of approximately 40% of Cyprus.

Thank you.”

Yesterday, the President of the Hellenic Republic Constantine An. Tassoulas, attended together with the European Heads of State, a dinner hosted by the President of Estonia. On the sidelines of the official dinner, he had a brief customary meeting with the President of the Republic of Austria, Alexander Van der Bellen.
