The President of the Hellenic Republic Constantine An. Tassoulas, at the invitation of the President of the Republic of Slovenia, Natasa Pirc Musar, is participating in the Arraiolos Group Summit of Heads of State, which is being held this year in Ljubljana.
Arriving at the summit, Mr. Tassoulas made the following statement:
“Today, from here in Slovenia, I would first like to thank the country as well as the President of the Republic of Slovenia, Ms. Natasa Pirc Musar, for the hospitable organization of the Summit of the Arraiolos Group, that is, the group consisting of sixteen Presidents of European countries.
Our meeting and our discussions will take place within a European and global framework that is marked by enormous uncertainties and very significant social pressures, particularly in Europe. To this end, and to address these challenges, Europe must seek solutions from within its own roots, from its founding, original values.
These values are the principles of Democracy and Human Rights, respect for the Rule of Law, social solidarity and social protection, as well as International Law. And through these values and their observance, Europe will emerge victorious once again.
We will also discuss issues concerning the reform of the United Nations and the question of the veto power in the Security Council.
Greece, as you know, is an elected member of the UN Security Council for the 2025–2026 term. Addressing the issue of the veto in a substantive and credible manner will mean reforming the UN in a way that is productive and will further assist the conduct of its work, as well as the effectiveness of the decisions of the Security Council.”
