Meeting with the Secretary General of the Regional Cooperation Council Amer Kapetanović

The President of the Hellenic Republic Constantine An. Tassoulas received the Secretary General of the Regional Cooperation Council (RCC) Amer Kapetanovic, who is visiting our country in the framework of his extended regional visit to the countries of South-Eastern Europe.

As it is known, the Regional Cooperation Council (RCC) is the operational arm of the South East European Cooperation Process.

Mr. Tassoulas expressed Greece’s support to the South East European Cooperation Process (SEECP), which was established in 1996 with a Greek initiative along with Bulgaria, as well as to the perspective of the accession process of the Western Balkan partners.

He also referred to the major programmes promoted by the Regional Cooperation Council (RCC), including the EU’s Western Balkans Growth Plan, the Common Regional Market Action Plan and the SEECP 2030 Strategy. Furthermore, he asked for more information regarding these programmes.

The President of the Hellenic Republic stressed that the promotion of dialogue and cooperation at the regional level becomes even more important and necessary in view of the extremely worrying escalation of tension in the Middle East region.

For his part, Mr.Kapetanovic praised Greece’s role and support to the regional cooperation within the SEEPC framework and more broadly to the European perspective of the countries of the region, while he stressed the importance of the connectivity of the Western Balkans region with the neighbouring EU member states.

Furthermore, he provided information about the work and the activities of the RCC, with emphasis on the initiative for the Regional Cooperation Network for Insurance Risk Coverage in cases of natural disasters, while he noted that the first meeting of this Network will take place in Athens next autumn.
